First announced in the Summer 2017 Bachmann Times (Vol. 17 No. 4) magazine, we are delighted to offer this OO scale BR Standard Class 4MT locomotive No. 75075 in weathered BR Black Late Crest livery.

2017 marked 50 years since the end of steam on British Railways’ Southern Region and you can now mark this anniversary with our BR Standard Class 4MT. Our model faithfully captures the final days of steam with an authentic weathered finish and even includes the chalked messages which had been added to the front end of the locomotive commiserating the end of steam operations on the mainline.

This excellent Bachmann Branchline OO scale 4MT is fitted with a 8 Pin DCC decoder socket and finer details include sprung buffers, opening cab roof vents, NEM couplings and a painted cab interior.

An accessory pack is also included which contains front steps, vacuum pipes, a dummy screw-link coupling and cylinder drain cocks.

HISTORY

A batch of 15 Standard Class 4 4-6-0 locomotives were built for the Southern Region at BR's Swindon Works as lot number 409 - the locomotives being delivered between August 1955 and January 1956. With the SR's requirement for Class 4 locomotives already largely filled by Standard Class 4 2-6-0s, the new locomotives were deployed on passenger and freight work on the Victoria and Waterloo main lines and later on the S&DJR route between Bath and Bournemouth.

No. 75075 was out shopped in November 1955, with its first allocation being at Exmouth Junction (72A). Following spells at various other sheds, 75075 was allocated to Eastleigh (71A) in December 1963 - where it would remain until withdrawal. No. 75075 was fitted with a double blast pipe and chimney - to improve draughting at the front end - in September 1961 and later received a BR1F tender. Following the end of steam on the Southern Region on 9th July 1967, No. 75075 was withdrawn and cut-up at A. King & Sons Ltd, Norwich in October of the same year.
